INTERVENTIONS
As we begin our year, we will be addressing students who are not performing to grade level expectations using the Response to Intervention (RTI) approach. This year will begin our journey toward helping each and every one of our students to be successful in school. Not only will we find the appropriate intervention for each student, but we will also help them to celebrate each and every milestone they achieve along the way.
Our journey begins with teaching to the best of our ability, with fidelity and vigor. We then must assess as we go to establish a concrete record of data to use to define which students need which interventions in order to be academically successful.
TIER 1
Effective Core Instruction For All Students.
Tier 1 students can and are performing at grade level. They need continual support from their teachers to stay engaged and performing at grade level.
TIER 2
Supplemental Interventions for Some Identified Students.
These interventions are led by collaborative teacher teams for students in need of supplemental support in learning essential core standards and the English language. The intervention we will be using for Tier 2 students is Read Live/Read Naturally.
TIER 3
Intensive Interventions for Individual Students.
Tier 3 students are in need of intensive remedial support in universal skills: reading, writing, number sense, English language, attendance, and behavior. After spending the first semester of this school year differentiating instruction in our classrooms, assessing at regular intervals to establish the needs and growth of each student, and working hard to meet the needs of every student, we will begin using an intensive intervention titled Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) with trained staff to make sure we are using this intervention to it fullest potential. The goal is to help our Tier 3 students to be successful at grade level and get them to Tier 2, then on to Tier 1. As students become more confident and engaged in their academic career, attendance and behavior issues improve drastically.
We look forward to supporting our students in their academic career and want to do everything we can to make that journey a success.
